The 8 Beauty Devices Used on the Set of The Devil Wears Prada 2, According to the Lead Makeup Artist

The landscape of beauty has changed significantly since The Devil Wears Prada first hit theaters in 2006. With cosmetic surgery almost as prevalent as Botox and K-beauty’s rise to fame, it’s no wonder that Andy Sach’s routine has progressed just as much as the universe of beauty products—and that extends to skincare tech. Nicki Ledermann, the key makeup artist for The Devil Wears Prada 2, asserts that the unsung heroes on set were the skincare and wellness tools.

“Actors understand that their face is their instrument, something deserving of real investment and care. Many of the The Devil Wears Prada 2 cast members already had their go-to gadgets, but they were always thrilled to discover a range of options awaiting them,” Ledermann shares with Bazaar.

She credits this toolkit of skincare and wellness devices with achieving the cast’s transformations for the sequel. “By the time I pick up a brush, the skin is truly prepared,” Ledermann remarks. “It’s common for people to drop into the makeup trailer for a quick session during a break or between scenes. I cherish that moment—it’s a small release of relief.”

For the face, the cast relied on LED and contrast therapy to maintain a radiant look and prep the skin. “The CurrentBody Red Light Therapy Mask and Theraface Depuffing Wand are the most impactful before makeup application,” Ledermann explains. “They ready the skin, minimize puffiness, enhance blood circulation, and produce a canvas that endures under long hours of makeup application in front of the camera.” She also used the Medi-Lift EMS Mask to finesse the jaw and neck area, which Andy would likely prioritize in the sequel. “This mask exercises and rejuvenates facial muscles, recapturing the natural lift after a busy workweek.”

Ledermann also incorporated devices the cast already had a fondness for and were using. In fact, Anne Hathaway initially introduced the makeup artist to the Theraface Depuffing Wand, revealing it as her secret gadget for faking adequate rest. “Daily, before anything else met her face, the wand, in unison with superb eye care, helped in reducing puffiness and awakening the eyes.” Even skincare devices made a brief appearance in the film. Emily Blunt is portrayed using the Solawave LED Skincare Wand, together with eye patches, to capture that moment of solace.

The craze for gadgets didn’t end with facial treatments—Ledermann notes that the cast used the CurrentBody Leg Recovery Compression Boots to power up lymphatic drainage and offer the feet a respite from the heavy rotation of high-end designer shoes. “Our stars were standing for lengthy periods, often in some of the most visually appealing yet harshest heels you’d ever see, and these boots provided both luxury and genuine restoration,” Ledermann shares.

One wellness gadget that was constantly on the go was the HigherDose Infrared PEMF Mat. “It would frequently find its way into a dressing room for a quick snooze or meditation session between setups and never made it back,” Ledermann says. “I eventually stopped questioning it. If it’s assisting someone in recharging between scenes, then it’s fulfilling its purpose.”

And then there are the tools for maintaining hair health. The cast was passionate about the use of the CurrentBody Hair Helmet, which facilitates circulation and growth and serves as a source of amusement on set. “There was always someone in it, entertaining and cracking everyone up—including the guys, who found out that if you fully commit to the act, no one questions why you’re wearing it. The humor is free, and the outcomes are genuine.”
