The Lob Is Officially Back. Here’s What You Need to Know About Getting a Long Bob

Bob hairstyles have been a staple on the red carpet, but the lob, or long bob, has recently taken center stage. Emma Stone sported this chic look throughout the awards season, showcasing the lob’s versatility with various styles, from sleek and voluminous to textured waves.

“The lob feels incredibly modern because it strikes that balance between polished and effortless,” says Emma Stone’s stylist Mara Roszak to Bazaar. “The length feels elevated for red carpet events, yet it’s still suitable for daily wear. It allows the hair to move, and it can be styled in so many ways while still looking natural and effortless.” Roszak has also launched a campaign for her brand, RŌZ Hair, with Lily Collins (who previously had a bob in the latest season of Emily in Paris), where Roszak styled Collins’s new lob. “With Emma, we focus on creating a soft shape and movement, so the cut naturally frames her face,” she explains.

Unlike a blunt bob, the lob feels more relaxed, modern, and soft. “I think we’re moving away from anything that feels too ‘done’ and toward hair that feels personal, touchable, and representative of an individual’s [Emma’s] natural texture and lifestyle,” Roszak explains. Plus, a lob has a lower barrier to entry since it’s not as short as a bob.

Hailey Bieber isn’t new to starting beauty trends, and the lob is no different. The Rhode Beauty founder has been experimenting with a lob since the beginning of the year, and stylist Bryce Scarlett was behind her style at the 2026 Oscars. Scarlett says he wanted to create a soft, ‘90s blowout but with her shorter, shoulder-length style—further proving that loose, voluminous styles are the modern way to wear a lob and even a bob. The stylist used a curling iron to give a bouncy blowout effect and finished Bieber’s look with the Emi Jay Angel Hold Styling Cream to give the lob “shine and density,” he says.

Scarlett also styled Margot Robbie’s lob-and-bangs combo, seen at the Chanel Fall/Winter 2027 runway show at Paris Fashion Week. While Robbie’s lob has more blunt ends, the style still looks relaxed, thanks to the beachy-wave styling and wispy bangs. Scarlett shows how a lob can be carefree and simple, whether it’s bouncy and polished or textured and casual.

While bobs and lobs can seem high-maintenance, Roszak stresses that less is more. “The biggest secret is not overworking it—a lob looks best when it feels soft, touchable, and slightly undone,” she says. “It really comes down to enhancing what’s already there.”

The stylist emphasizes the importance of using lightweight products when styling a lob. “When the right products are used, the hair has that effortless fullness and shine without feeling overworked.”
